3. What options are available to look up API
profile numbers?
a) Analytical Profile Index—commonly known as codebooks,
these "books" contain the most frequently encountered
profile numbers and their identifications.
b) Voice Response System—a computerized database accessible
through a touch tone phone: 800-645-7056.
c) APILAB Plus—new software product that gives an automated
interpretation on a PC workstation.
4. What is the APILAB Plus?
A NEW software product containing all of the API database (except
An-IDENT) for a reliable automated interpretation of API strip
results—when used on any compatible PC workstation. APILAB
Plus is rapid and easy to use. Simply key in the biochemical or
numerical profile of the strip in order to obtain the interpretation
immediately. The software provides a detailed report that is displayed
on the screen and can be printed or stored in the APILab Plus
database.
Each identification report includes:
- a list of possible species
- comments indicating the reliability of the identification
- a full biochemical profile
- additional information (any atypical tests or additional testing
required)APILAB Plus can be used on any compatible PC utilizing
DOS (a more recent version than 2.0), Windows 95 or NT 4.0.
(It is not compatible with the current VITEK software.) The
PC must also be equipped with at least:
- 256 Kb of central RAM memory
- a 3 1/2 inch disk drive and a hard disk, or two 3 1/2 inch
disk drives with 720 kb. Note: if the PC does not have a hard
disk, the two disk drives must have the same format. Consider
ordering APILAB Plus instead of multiple analytical profile
indices. Note that future updates to APILAB Plus will be available
for a nominal fee. APILAB Plus can be ordered through Customer

profiles since they are not in the codebook?
There are 3 options for gaining access to this database:

6. Can you give me some information of the
final reaction (Hyphae/Pseudophae) on the API 20C AUX?
There is a new reaction that needs to be recorded on the API
20C AUX. The last (21st) test on the result sheet is labeled "Hyphae/Pseudohyphae".
If these are present, the well should be called positive. The
numerical value for this well is 4. This value should be taken
into account when determining the last digit of the profile number.
