Chromogenic Media is an easy-to-use medium for the isolation, enumeration and identification of urinary bacteria in just one step. The second generation ready-to-use, pre-plated CPS medium enables the two essential steps in bacterial urine testing to be carried out simultaneously:

• enumeration, using a 10 µl calibrated loop
  
• direct identification: the culture medium contains specific substrates for the detection of enzymatic activity:
  
• E. coli: ß-glucuronidase (ß GUR) and indole
  
• Proteus: tryptophane-deaminase (TDA)
  
• Enterococci: ß-glucosidase (ß GLU)

By isolating the bacteria, you can compare the density of the colonies detected, and thus identify issues such as probable contamination, probable infection or equivocal results.
