
The Use of D-dimer Testing in the Management of VTE:
ED and Laboratory Perspectives

This webinar will discuss the advantages of using a D-dimer exclusion (rule-out) strategy in the emergency diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The program will present valuable information for both laboratory professionals and ED clinicians, with speakers presenting the importance of a partnership between the Lab and ED in diagnosing this critical condition.
Topics covered will include:
- Selection and use of an appropriate D-dimer test in an exclusion strategy
- Laboratory accreditation issues
- Limitations of D-dimer testing for VTE
- Pre-test probability assessment models, and
- The advantages of using an exclusion diagnostic pathway

We are honored to introduce our first presenter in the area of Immunoassay Solutions, Dr. William Rock, M.D. Dr. Rock is currently Professor of Pathology and Director, division of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. He is also a Professor of Medical Mechnology in the department of Clinical Laboratory Scientists at UMMC. Dr. Rock attended Louisiana State University in New Orleans receiving his BS degree and continued his studies there, earning his MD at the LSU School of Medicine. He is involved with numerous professional memberships and societies and has been credited with several academic appointments. Dr. Rock has also authored a number of publications over the last 14 years.
