"Be the First to Know" is more than a slogan; it's the guiding philosophy behind bioMérieux's continued dedication to the fight against disease and the search for appropriate treatments. Over the last three years, bioMérieux has dedicated more than 12 percent of its annual income to research and development – focusing on microbiology, immunoanalysis coagulation and nucleic acid diagnostics.

In the last two years alone, this research has led to the introduction of 31 new products. This includes 23 new diagnostic cards (such as our latest, the S. pneumoniae Susceptibility Card) and two software updates. We've also developed and released advancements like the VITEK 2, VITEK XL, AES, D-Dimer, API Lab and Candida ID.

bioMérieux introduced new plastic BacT/ALERT^® blood culture bottles and the VIDAS^® D-Dimer New assay. The new plastic BacT/ALERT bottles offer the same proven media formulations for equivalent recovery to BacT/ALERT media in conventional glass bottles, but they are 30% lighter than BacT/ALERT media is glass bottles and 50% lighter than other brands in glass bottles, reducing waste disposal costs.

VIDAS D-Dimer New is the only ELISA-based assay FDA-cleared to rule out the presence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and aid in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) in outpatients.
