(July 17, 2007) — bioMérieux, Inc., a leading in vitro diagnostics company, recently announced the launch of its new WorkSafe™ Blood Culture Kit designed to provide a safer and easier process for blood culture collection that can help minimize collection contamination, minimizing the risk of false positives. Blood cultures are critical in the early detection stage for Sepsis--a severe, whole-body immune response to infection. A false positive result from the lab can have a costly impact on both patients and hospitals.
The WorkSafe™ Blood Culture Kit is a key element of bioMérieux’s WorkSafe™ campaign which equips hospital workers with one simple kit with all the necessary components for safe and efficient blood culture-collection. The kit eliminates the need for nurses or phlebotomists to manually pull loose and disparate pieces together for blood culture collection. The kit also contains a disposal bag so all biohazardous materials are properly disposed of.
Each kit includes BacT/ALERT® 3D blood culture bottles, made of a proprietary multi-layer polycarbonate, instead of glass which decreases the risk of breakage and blood or body fluid exposures. This improves worker and patient safety by limiting the amount of potential exposure to biohazardous materials. The lightweight plastic bottles are safer than glass and can be sent through pneumatic transportation tube systems without costly custom holders or fear of breakage.
